N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council held their first meeting of 2017 Monday evening at city hall.

Several items on the consent agenda were approved including authorization of the 2017 Water Main Replacement Project north of Nickeus Park in the northwest portion of the city, purchase of two new Labrie dual armed automated garbage  trucks, and the use of city equipment being used to remove fallen trees in public areas in the James River.

In resolutions, the city council heard from Travis Dillman with Interstate Engineering on submittal to the NDDOT of the 2017 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP).

Dillman reported on the two projects to include in their submission.

The resolution was passed unanimously.

The council also made motion on rate adjustments for the Water, Wastewater, Sanitation and Solid Waste Disposal fees. Councilman Steve Brubakken asked City Auditor Jeff Fuchs if this rate adjustment included curbside recycling. Fuchs reports that it does not.

The resolution was passed unanimously.

One of the final items discussed was consideration of discontinuing the Health Club Credit Program as part of the City’s Blue Cross Blue Shield Group Health Insurance Plan. Administrator Fuchs gave more information on why they wanted to discontinue using the program.

Fuchs pointed that at the beginning of the year, the IRS now considers the $20 per month benefit income, causing the $20 to require being withheld in State and Federal income taxes as well as Social Security. Fuchs says it would be an administrative nightmare and not worth it. The council voted to discontinue the program.
