Grindler, age 84 of Rogers, ND, died Thursday, December 29th at Sanford Health in Fargo.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 2nd, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Mathias Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Monday afternoon.  Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery in the spring.

Marlowe Grindler was born January 4, 1931 in Ashtabula Township of Barnes County near Rogers, ND, to Albert and Iva (Johnson) Grindler.  He attended rural school at Logan District #17.  He attended Valley City High School until he had to come home and help his dad with the farming.

On May 25, 1952, he married Donna June Krause at Detroit Lakes, MN.  They made their home on the family farm.

Marlowe played trombone in school and later drums.  He sang for many functions.  He played with the 5 G’s, the family orchestra, for years.  Marlowe loved to make people laugh with his sense of humor.  They continued to farm until retirement in 1993, but continued to live on the farm.

He drove bus for North Central of Barnes for three years.

Marlowe enjoyed deer hunting, bird hunting, fishing and trapping.  He loved to trap shoot.  He helped with hunter safety and educating youth.  For 35 years, he volunteered as a hunter safety instructor, earning distinction through the ND Game and Fish.  In 2006, he received the ND Hunter Education of the year award.

Marlowe was a member of the Barnes County Wildlife Federation.  He was a member of the Valley City Eagles.  He loved dancing and music.  He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Rogers.

Marlowe and Donna have three daughters, Trudy (Wally) Albaugh, Nancy (Bob) Ryerson, and Sherry Bachmeier; and a son, Lenny Grindler.  They also have 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
