CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City-Barnes County Development Corporation is establishing a new position to address workforce retention and recruiting.
The position will be called “The Employee Retention & Recruiting Coordinator.” The individual will be responsible for initiating, developing, coordinating and implementing activities and programs to assist with workforce retention in the community.
Valley City Barnes County Area Director of Development Jennifer Feist said as the lead organization responsible for creating employment opportunities, the next critical element is to retain our workforce and minimize commuting and turnover.
Earlier this year, Valley City’s Job Service Office was closed. She said to address the gap created, the coordinator would assist employers and employees utilize Job Service resources. This includes helping employers post jobs on-line or in the Job Service system, update information and search for candidates. They would also assist job seekers with registration and posting resumes in the Job Service system. Services would not include unemployment benefits, related questions or transactions.
Feist said key to the success of this effort is building strong relationships throughout the community and working with existing partners to execute a variety of community engagement opportunities.
This is a full-time position with a commitment of two years initially. The goal is for the position to become permanent; however, funding must be secured to ensure financial sustainability.
