CITY (VCSUVikings.com)- The Valley City State women’s basketball team won its seventh straight game Monday night, downing Concordia-Moorhead 65-48 in Valley City.

Lexi Lennon poured in 19 points to lead the Viking offense, and VCSU forced 26 Cobber turnovers in the victory.

VCSU led 15-12 after the first quarter. The Vikings made five of their first six shots to start the second quarter, building a 29-16 lead, as they outscored Concordia 22-15 in the period for a 37-27 halftime lead.  Concordia would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way, and the Vikings put the game away in the final quarter leading by as many as 18 points.

Valley City State improves to 10-3 overall with the victory. The Vikings will resume conference play this weekend, hosting Dakota State on Friday and Bellevue University on Saturday. Concordia’s record drops to 3-6 overall.

Lennon went 6-for-10 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line for a game-high 19 points. Alli Vandal posted 13 points and seven rebounds, and Georgia Williams added 11 points. Kennedy Henningsgard went 3-for-5 on 3’s as she finished with nine points. Nisja Bass filled up the stat sheet with five points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists.

VCSU shot 44 percent overall (24-54), including 58 percent in the first half. The Vikings went 7-for-19 on 3’s (37 percent) and 10-for-15 at the free throw line.

Concordia College finished at 34 percent shooting (14-41), 25 percent on 3’s (3-12) and 81 percent at the line (17-21). Grace Wolhowe had 12 points to lead the Cobbers. Greta Walsh added 11 and Jenna Januschka scored 10.

Neither team took great care of the ball as they combined for 46 total turnovers. VCSU committed 20 of those turnovers but also had 14 steals.

VCSU held a 30-28 edge on the glass, including a 10-9 edge in offensive rebounds.
