N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——–The Carrington girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season, downing the Aggies of Velva-Sawyer (V-S) 60-45. The Cardinals opened up a 12 point halftime lead 33-21 and had to regroup after scoring just 4 third quarter points, leading 37-35 heading to the 4th quarter. The Cards top 3 scorers in the game scored 21 of the teams 23 points I the final frame to closeout the District 11 preseason favorite Aggies. Maara Nelson had a game high 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals. Haley Hewitt and Abigail Jarrett both added 12 points to aid a balanced scoring attack. Jill Endres also chipped in 8 points for the Card. The Cards also stayed hot at the free throw line, making 12-15 for 80 percent. After two games the Cards have hit on 27-34 from the charity stripe, good for 79.4 percent. V-S was paced by Jonnah Lee with a team high 19 points as the Aggies fall to 0-1 to start the season. Carrington improves to 2-0 and will play next at the Stutsman County Tournament December 8-10.
