(NewsDakota.com) Nicole Schmitz scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds as the Oakes High School girls basketball team won their first game of the 2016-17 season in their first home game Saturday afternoon against Sargent Central by the score of 58-30.
Shelby Roney also had a double-double for the Tornadoes (1-1), with 17 points and 12 boards, to go along with four assists and five steals. Bailey Skjefte contributed nine points in the victory.
Both teams next play in the opening round of the Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse on the campus of Valley City State University. The Tornadoes are the #4 seed, and will face the fifth seeded Enderlin Eagles around 4:30 p.m. Enderlin defeated Oakes 60-29 in both team’s season opener in Enderlin last Thursday.
