N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The season’s first winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow to parts of western and central North Dakota.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of that area through Wednesday evening. Todd Hamilton is with the Weather Service in Bismarck.

Hamilton says in eastern North Dakota, it will remain as rain. But he says over parts of the west and central, 6-12 inches of snow is possible over the three day period. And Hamilton says some higher amounts are possible in the US Highway 83 corridor.

Hamilton says winds will also pick up – causing some blowing and drifting snow. And he says the snow was preceded by rain – and that could add to slick conditions.
