(Evy) Agnes Gassmann Gartland, age 90, Valley City, passed away Sunday, November 20 at ManorCare in Fargo, North Dakota.??

Visitation will be Friday, November 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City with Pastor Brad Edin officiating. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City, North Dakota with Monsignor Dennis Skonseng officiating.??

Evelyn was born April 26, 1929, the youngest of ten children of Frank and Theresia (Tullius) Gassmann. She grew up on the Gassmann family farm two miles south of Valley City and attended grade school before graduating from St. Catherine’s High School. She married Goodwin Gartland on November 27, 1954. They lived four miles south of Valley City on the Gartland Centennial Homestead where they enjoyed working together their entire married life. Throughout this time Evelyn enjoyed welcoming and entertaining company, visiting with her many friends, playing whist, gardening and homemaking. She was also an active, devoted lifelong member of St Catherine’s Catholic Church.?

Although Aunt Evy never had any children of her own, she was like a mother to all her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and also great great nieces and nephews.?

She was preceded in death by her husband Goodwin in 1999, and all of her siblings: Ralph, Clifford, Richard, Leon, David, Robert, Frances, Isabel, and baby Rudolph.  Survivors include many nieces and nephews and also grand and great grand nieces and nephews.?

Burial will be in the Gassmann plot at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery at Valley City North Dakota.
