CITY, N.D. – (NewsDakota.com) William “Bill” Hill of Valley City is one of this year’s North Star Classic Livestock Honorees.

Hill was also honored earlier this year by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association with a 50 Year Service Award.

Hill attended a one room schoolhouse in Gretchell, North Dakota where he spent 50 years as a township board member.

Hill was in charge of livestock sales barns in Valley City, Jamestown and Edgeley for several decades. He also inspected in West Fargo and during the North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City.

In addition to his brand inspection service, Bill farmed for many years. He represents the fourth-generation to operate the Barnes County ranch that was purchased in 1875 by his Great Grandfather from the Northern Pacific Railroad.

In 1954, Hill married Earlis, the couple had five daughters and five grandchildren. Earlis passed away in 2008.
 
Bill has been active in many community organizations, including the local Eagles Club and the North Dakota Amvets, serving as an officer at the local, state, and national levels.
 
Although retired from farming, Bill has not slowed down. He spent 10 years as a load coordinator for a fat lamb buying commission firm from Baraboo, Wisconsin. Today, he works at Valley Meat Supply in Valley City, a company he says has put up with him for 40 years.

Dr. Andrew Peterson of Enderlin, North Dakota is one of this year’s North Star Classsic Livestock Honorees. He grew up on a farm near Hunter, North Dakota. He attended NDSU and graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969.

Peterson spent two years in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. He came back to and worked as a veterinarian in Park River and Lisbon, North Dakota.

In 1975, he started the Enderlin Veterinary Clinic and continues to practice mixed animal Veterinary Medicine. He is married and has three daughters and three grandsons.

The North Star Classic will showcase hundreds of cattle December 2nd thru December 4th in the North Dakota Winter Show Events Center in Valley City.

During the show there will be a Market Outlook Update for Beef Cattle Producers. NDSU Barnes County Extension Educator Randy Greuneich said registration for the presentation starts at 10am Friday, December 2nd in the south exhibit building.

This year’s North Star Classic Livestock Honorees William (Bill) Hill of Valley City and Dr. Andrew Peterson of Enderlin will be honored during a ceremony on Friday, December 2nd at 4pm in the main arena of the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center. The public is welcome to attend any of these events.
