ILL (VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State men’s basketball team completed a 2-0 road trip to Chicago with a 65-56 victory over Moody Bible Institute on Saturday.
Saturday’s victory completed back-to-back wins for VCSU at the Big Four Tournament hosted by Moody Bible. VCSU improves to 6-4 overall.
The Vikings trailed by three at halftime, 30-27, but stepped up the defense in the second half as they outscored Moody 38-26 over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory. VCSU led 56-54 with 4:25 remaining before scoring nine straight points to put the game out of reach.
Jayden Ferguson led the Viking offense with 22 points as he moved up to 11th all-time in scoring at VCSU with 1,218 career points. Ferguson, who also had six rebounds and five assists, passed both Mike Jewett (1,206 points) and Don Muhs (1,207 points) on the VCSU career scoring list Saturday.
Rashad Satahoo scored 18 points and had three assists, and Alex Quistadded 11 points for VCSU. Satahoo, Quist and Ferguson combined to shoot 10-for-20 from 3-point range. Austin Dunbar and Ellwood Ellenson each chipped in six points.
VCSU shot 43 percent for the game (23-53), 44 percent on 3’s (10-23) and 69 percent at the line (9-13). Moody Bible finished at 41 percent from the field (23-56), 23 percent on 3’s (5-22) and 63 percent on free throws (5-8).
VCSU had just seven turnovers and eight fouls. The Vikings recorded assists on 16 of their 23 field goals.
Up next: Valley City State (6-4) will play an exhibition game at Minot State on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. The Vikings are back home Friday, Nov. 25, against Crown College.
