(NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown lead 2-0 in the match, but wore down in the final three sets to see Shanley advance in the state volleyball tournament, 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23, 15-4). The Jays have lost their opening game at state for the third time in their last four trips only advancing past the opening game when they won it all back in 2013.
Jamestown took the first set in convincing fashion with a 25-18 win over the shell-shocked Deacons. However, midway thru set two Shanley started to find their groove. They lead 23-20 before the Jays won six of the final seven points to take a commanding 2-0 advantage.
The momentum that Shanley built in the second carried over to a dominating third set win. In the fourth, it was the Jays who battled back to take a three-point lead late but couldn’t hold it.
It was all Shanley in the fifth as they rolled to a 15-4 victory.
Jamestown will play West Fargo at 12pm on Friday afternoon in consolation semifinals.
