CROSSE ,WI (VCSUVikings.com)- The Viking volleyball season came to a close Friday night as VCSU lost to top seed Viterbo University in the North Star semifinals.

Viterbo – ranked No. 3 in the country – moved on to the NSAA championship with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 win over the Vikings. VCSU, the No. 4 seed for the NSAA Tournament, ends the season with a 12-22 overall record. Viterbo improves to 38-2 overall with their 35th straight victory.

A kill by VCSU freshman Taylor Sharp gave the Vikings a 16-15 lead in the first game, but Viterbo ended the game with a 10-2 run to win it 25-18.

In game two, the teams traded points throughout and were tied 21-21 before Viterbo scored four of the final five points for a 25-22 victory. Viterbo made quick work of game three with a 25-13 victory to seal the match.

Sharp had seven kills to lead VCSU’s attack. Megan Johnson posted six kills and four block assists, and three other Vikings had four kills. Taylor Balkan finished with 23 assists and Jaycee George led VCSU with 19 digs.

Viterbo outhit the Vikings .154 to .043 in the match. VCSU had six blocks, two aces and six service errors. The V-Hawks finished with four blocks, seven aces and five service errors.

Saturday Viterbo claimed their 2nd straight NSAA Championship defeating The University of Jamestown 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16). The V-Hawks earned the NSAA’s automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Viterbo will receive an opening round bye and will advance to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa. Tournament play will begin on November 29.
