City, ND (VCSUVikings.com)- VCSU volleyball senior’s led the Vikings with a strong performance on the court, which earned them the 3-0 conference victory against Waldorf University: 25-22, 25-14, 27-25.
VCSU’s overall record is now 9-20 and 5-8 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Warriors now posts an overall record of 16-20 and 5-9 in conference play.
Viking seniors Nicolette Bloomer, Jaycee George, Darrien Cantelo, and Taylor Balkan were all honored tonight before the game for their contributions to the VCSU Volleyball program.
Balkan led the Vikings with 38 assists, eight digs, and had two kills. Her 38 assists propelled her to breaking the 1000 career assist mark as she ended the night at 1013 career assists overall. George and Balkan were both top leaders in service aces as they both recorded two, George also had five digs.
The Vikings and the Warriors traded points back and forth down the stretch of the first set until point 22 where the Vikings were able to pull ahead by three points and record the first win 25-22 making it 1-0. VCSU gained this lead from two kills by Megan Johnson and a Warrior error.
In set two, the Vikings were able to capitalize on a series of Warrior errors as they jumped ahead 10 points while on a run from points 13-23. The Vikings were able to finalize the win 25-14 and record a second win putting them ahead 2-0 on the match.
The Warriors battled back in set three forcing the Vikings to use extra points to earn the third win of the match. As they traded points back and forth again the Vikings were able to come out on top 27-25 and took the 3-0 victory.
Johnson tallied 16 Kills and a .556 hitting percentage for the Vikings. Freshman Taylor Sharp added 13 kills of her own. Balkan, Charlotte Huschka, and Leah Ruter all led the VCSU defense with eight digs each.
Waldorf University was led by six kills from Megan Perkins and five from Angie Gore. Valerie Rivera led the Warriors with 17 assists followed by 10 assists from teammate Elisabeth Tramm.
Up next: VCSU (9-20, 5-8 NSAA) travels to Mayville State University for another conference matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 2. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Mayville, N.D. Waldorf University (16-20, 5-9 NSAA) will host Presentation College on Thursday, Nov. 4 for a conference match up in Forest City, Iowa.
