N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Tourism Board met last Thursday to discuss several grant proposals they had received.

The Capital Construction Fund allows Jamestown Tourism to promote the community projects that enhance the overall experience for residents and tourists alike. Executive Director Searle Swedlund stated that the fund is part of the city constitution.

Swedlund pointed out that on average, it’s about $80,000 generated from the tax. The board meets twice yearly to dole out grant money, with half of the money being distributed in the Spring and the other half in the fall.

The board is trying to use the funds for the betterment of touristic opportunities in the community. During their recent grant request hearing, five separate entities came forward with over $125,000 in project requests.

Projects include $6,000 for artist designed bike racks at the Arts Park, $5,000 for a concrete path for the new Sensory Gardens, $21,320 for continued construction on the National Buffalo Museum, funds for continued Courthouse renovations and $50,164 for project work at the Frontier Village.

The Board will decide on what projects to fund and how much will be allotted during a special meeting Tuesday.
