N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In a battle of the 2AA West on Friday night, the Saints scored five touchdowns in the first half and roll past the Titans of Central Dakota 49-12. With the victory, the number one rated Saints clinched home field throughout the playoffs which start on October 29th. St. Mary’s improves to a perfect 6-0 and 8-0 overall, the Titans drop to 0-6 and 0-8 overall.
The Saints didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard, on the initial kickoff of the game, Senior Cole Spies grabbed the ball and ran for a 75-yard kickoff return making it 6-0 with only 15 seconds off the clock. Later in the first quarter, Spies would rush from 43-yards out for his second touchdown of the game.
In the last home game of the year for the Titans, Senior Quarterback David Fletcher threw for 164 yards on eight of 19 passing and one touchdown and three interceptions. The Titans would score back-to-back touchdowns in the second half. Fletcher connected with Junior Mason Smith for a 19-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter making it 42-6. Then, with a little over four minutes played in the fourth quarter, Fletcher would run in from six yards out for another touchdown making it 42-12 Saints. The Saints scored the last TD of the game with about :35 seconds left when Freshman Joel Huber ran in from five yards out making it 49-12 after the extra point.
