CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The 1200 block of 6th Avenue Northeast neighborhood in Valley City, along with Vicky’s Viking Room, and the Barnes County States Attorney’s Office are participating in the “Light in the Window Campaign.”

The campaign symbolizes the community’s concern in shedding light on the devastating effects of domestic violence and the unified commitment to make every home a safe home.

The color purple used in this campaign is drawn from the purple ribbon, a traditional symbol of domestic violence awareness and remembrance.

Light in the Window represents:

1.       A personal commitment to fostering respectful relationships.

2.       A unified stance that domestic violence is not acceptable in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and homes.

3.       Hope that together we are “Lighting the Way to Peace in Our Heart, Our Homes, and the World”.

The campaign attempts to heighten awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence in our community and lets victims know they are supported.

Community members who would like to show their support can purchase purple light bulbs online at (www.oogalights.com) or find them at arts & craft stores and create luminaries made with purple bags or jars.

To help recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month, attend the Abused Person’s Outreach Center (APOC) Fundraiser Supper & Silent Auction on Friday, October 21 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the VFW Club in Valley City.
