“John” O’Meara, 85, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Friday morning, October 7, 2016 at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Melton John O’Meara was born March 16, 1931, on the family farm near Hankinson, ND, the son of Edward and Margaret (Holtz) O’Meara. He received his 8th grade education at Devillo #2 Fairmont, ND and attained his GED years later at age 55. John worked as an assistant manager at Victoria Elevator from 1951 to 1954, and then as manager of Klose Farmers Elevator from 1954 through 1967. He married Mary Lee Gorthy on February 2, 1957. John continued his career as field auditor for Kellogg Commission Co. from 1967 to 1996, serving the last ten years as Vice-President. He worked for Orr Auctioneers and was co-owner of Orr Appraisals from 1998 to 2006, and then worked for Pifer’s from 2006 until currently.
John enjoyed working for the auctioneers, along with fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee O’Meara; three children, Kevin (Terry) O’Meara, Laurie (Richard) Podoll, and Michelle (Nathan) Nannenga; two grandchildren, Johnathan and Jennifer; three step-grandchildren, Sherry, Joseph, and Arielle; and six great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at St. James Basilica.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
