City, ND (VCSUvikings.com)- The Viking volleyball team dropped a pair of conference matches on the road this weekend, losing in five sets at Waldorf University and in three sets at No. 5-ranked Viterbo University.

Valley City State drops to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in the North Star Athletic Association.

Up next: VCSU hosts three conference matches this week against Mayville State (Wednesday), University of Jamestown (Friday) and Dickinson State (Saturday).

Waldorf 3, VCSU 2
Friday night’s match at Waldorf went the distance and was the sixth match this season that the Vikings have lost in five sets.

The teams alternated set wins in Waldorf’s victory by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-13.

Megan Johnson had 14 kills and a .278 hitting percentage for VCSU. Clarissa Olson also had a big match with 12 kills and zero errors for a .600 hitting percentage.Taylor Sharp added 11 kills and Leah Ruter had nine.

Taylor Balkan tallied 38 assists, Jaycee George recorded 31 digs, and Hailie Wilde and 18 digs and three aces.

VCSU outhit Waldorf, .220 to .185 in the loss. Waldorf had four players reach double-digit kills.
 

Viterbo 3, VCSU 0
The Vikings hung with the No. 5-ranked team in the nation for one set Saturday afternoon, but fell in three to Viterbo: 26-24, 25-18, 25-18.

Taylor Sharp had eight kills and Clarissa Olson added seven for VCSU. Nicolette Bloomer had six kills and four blocks.

Viterbo outhit the Vikings, .308 to .061. The V-Hawks had eight blocks in the match, compared to four for VCSU.
