N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jimmie hockey team is off to a fast start in its first year of existence. Jamestown has won three of its first four games including a weekend sweep of Utah at Wilson Arena.

The Jimmies picked up a win Friday night 4-1 and completed the sweep with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night. Utah falls to 2-2. Both teams compete in the ACHA.

Next up is highly ranked Minot State, as the Beavers, ranked 5th in the nation, will battle the Jimmies in a home and home series. Jamestown travels to the Magic City on Friday night, and the Beavers will play in the Buffalo City on Saturday night.

Coverage of Saturday nights game will be on ESPN Jamestown starting with the pre game at 6:40 pm. Opening face off will be at 7:pm.

Jamestown 4 Utah 1

The Utes looked sluggish after a 16 hour bus trip from Salt Lake City and the Jimmies took advantage jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Jamestown outshot Utah 27-19 and picked up goals from four Freshman. Michael Pruss, his second, Jeremy McNeil, his third, Cameron Todd, his second, and Eric Buckley, his first. Freshman Goalie Tyson Brouwer stopped 18 of 19 shots. Freshman Trevor Okino dished out two assists and now has a team leading eight helpers.

Jamestown 2 Utah 1

Again the Jimmies came out flying outshooting the Utes 23-8 in the first period but managed just one goal as Freshman Defensemen Trevor Okino scored in the low slot on a 5-3 power play late in the period for his first goal of the season.

Freshman Jason Richter scored his second goal of the season early in the second to bump the lead to 2-0. Okino had an assist and now has scored 10 points in just four games.

Utah sliced it to 2-1 midway through the period on a goal by Connor Meaney, but both goalies were solid the rest of the way and the Jimmies held on for the victory.

Jamestown out shot the Utes 43-29 with Brouwer coming up with 28 saves.

“I am proud of the team” said head coach Dean Stork, “Everyone battled. These guys compete every night. We are a young team that works hard.”
