Coach’s Comments
Thanks to the VCTA and especially the Kringlie family for putting on the tennis fun night. Thanks also to the varsity parents for bringing food to share. The event was well received by both teams and all the fans! Thank you.
A bright spot today was a couple comebacks. After losing the first set 6-0, Jack came back to force a tiebreaker in the second set showing his resiliency. Also, our #2 doubles team caught fire in the second set and won four of five games to get to 5 all before dropping the match.
With the loss today, we are now guaranteed to play West Fargo in a play-in match on Monday at 4:30pm at home. The winner goes to team regionals on Thursday and the loser’s team season comes to a close. In either event, both teams will compete in the individual tournamenton Friday and Saturday in Grand Forks. The format for the play-in match and team regionals is different than the regular season. In regular season, teams play six singles matches and three doubles matches where players can play both singles and doubles. In the post-season, we play three singles and two doubles where players can only play one or the other. The only stipulation on where players can be is that our #1 singles is better than our #2 and our #2 is better than our #3. In doubles, our #1 team must be better than our #2. This makes it a guessing game on where the other coach is going to put their players. We have a line-up for Monday that we are confident in and no matter what line-up West Fargo throws out, we will have to play well up and down the line-up to win and continue our team season.
The JV had their last dual today, but their season is not over as they have the JV EDC Regional tournament on Saturday in Fargo.
