Coaches Comments

South is very good and will be the #2 seeded team at the regional tournament.  Their doubles were solid.  They took control of the net and put away balls.  They graduated 5 varsity players from their state championship team last year and reloaded for this year.  Vic Youngs, Fargo South’s head coach, and his coaching staff, Kyle Christiansen – tennis pro – and Jason Thiner – tennis pro – do a very good job with their 7th graders on up.

We continue to figure out how we will be playing our 3-2 line-up.  Hale and Trevor are developing chemistry at #3 doubles.  Zach and Collin continue improving their doubles skills even though the score tonight doesn’t reflect that.  Hunter and Riley got to play a lot of defense at #1 doubles facing the reigning singles state champion.

In singles, Hunter played some great points against that state champion.  Playing that level of competition is just making Hunter better.  Riley had a comeback.  He dropped the second set and was down.  He figured out that he is in control and believed in his game and strokes and bageled his opponent in the third set for our only victory.  Liam had a very exciting match and showed us what he can do.  He was consistent, came to the net, and constructed points.  He is improving a lot.

Our next action is Home on Thursday at 4pm versus Grand Forks Central in our last regular season match.  There will be a hotdog feed starting at 5:30 to include lemonade, desserts, fruits and vegetables.  Please come out and eat with us and support your Hi-Liner tennis team!
