N.D. (AP) – Trial has been scheduled for 2018 in the lawsuit by an engineer who was at the helm of a BNSF train that derailed near Casselton in 2013.

Bryan Thompson is suing BNSF and Standard Steel for a crash he says left him with post-traumatic stress disorder and unable to return to work.

The original suit filed last year by Thompson only named BNSF, which says in court documents that if Thompson suffered any injuries, it was the fault of “entities over which BNSF has no control.”

Thompson added Standard Steel to the suit, accusing the Pennsylvania company of producing a defective axle that contributed to the crash. The company says it was not at fault.

Federal Judge Ralph Erickson on Friday set trial for Feb. 27, 2018.
