CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota Department of Transportation awarded a ,100 Safe Routes to School Grant to the Valley City Police Department.

Police Chief Fred Thompson said the grant will allow officers to conduct traffic enforcement in areas surrounding elementary and junior high schools.

He says there will be classroom training given to students by police officers on traffic, bicycle, roller skate/blades and walking safety involving motor vehicles.

Thompson said additional traffic enforcement will occur on various days before and after school starts and the public can expect strict enforcement of traffic laws. He said the police department looks forward to never having to respond to a student versus motor vehicle accident of any kind in Valley City.

Anyone with questions about this grant should call the police department at 845-3110 and ask for Police Chief Fred Thompson.
