N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp has recently been on a statewide tour to bring farmers, ranchers and other leaders together to discuss the 2018 Farm Bill.

Senator Heitkamp started her tour in Jamestown and discussed some of the priorities she would like to see in the Farm Bill. When asked what some of the negatives were in the 2014 Farm Bill, Senator Heitkamp brought up the County Arch Program, which required all counties to report.

Senator Heitkamp stated that she believes the next Farm Bill needs to focus on the future, rather than just a few years ahead.

Senator Heitkamp was also on a farm near Cleveland Thursday to survey wetlands with producers and meet with representatives from Delta Waterfowl, a nonprofit that supports wetland conservation.

The Delta Waterfowl pilot project gives incentives to farmers not to drain wetlands while continuing to farm the land.
