(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team ended the 2016 regular season with a 6-10 record in Class B Southeast Region play after an 8-6 road victory against Elllendale Post 137 Wednesday night.
Oakes took the lead with three runs in the first inning, and never gave up the lead, in spite of many advances by Post 137 (4-11); including stranding two runners in scoring position to end the contest.
Michael Kelly earned the victory for Post 36 in his first start since the end of last month, striking out seven. Kelly also had a four hit night, with three singles and a double. Tyler Voightman drew four consecutive walks.
Oakes will now wait to see whom and when they play in the opening round of the 2016 North Dakota Class B Southeast Region Baseball Tournament at Townsend Field in LaMoure, which starts on Monday July 18. Coverage of all Oakes games throughout the course of the tournament can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
