FARGO,ND (NewsDakota.Com)- Valley City Post 60 took to the road Thursday night and came back home with a split of the 2 region games played against the West Fargo Aces.  VC won game one by score of 8-0, but dropped the second game 7-6.

Game 1 VC won 8-0, region game

It was another strong and dominating pitching outing for Jesse Johnson, as he threw his 2nd no -hitter in his past 3 starts.  Johnson was on point from the start of the game.  He allowed only 2 runners to reach base through the 7 innings.  His performance was needed as the game remained scoreless through 3 innings.  In the 4th Post 60 was able to push across a single run and again in the sixth 1 more run came in for VC. 6 runs in the 7 provided a good cushion for Johnson as he finished the game in style with a strike out.

Johnson threw all 7 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while walking 1 and striking out 13 for the win.

At the plate VC picked up 15 hits in the game. Sam Jenson lead the way with 3 hits, while 5 other players picked up 2 hits a piece.  It was the bottom 3 of the order that had big days at the plate.  The 7-8-9 hitters combined to go 5-10 while each had 2 RBI’s a piece.

Coaches Comments:
“Not much more I can say about Jesse in his past 3 games, he has been locked in and dominate in those games.  Every time he steps on the mound he gives our guys confidence that we will stay in the game and have a good chance in that game.”
“Our offense picked up this games. We got some big hits in the contest.  Early in the game we had runners in scoring position but couldn’t come up with those big hits, but the guys stuck with it and in that 7th inning they started to come.”
“Our bottom really was a spark plug for us today, that was nice to see”

Game 2 VC lost 7-6, region game

Things started out on a good note for Post 60 as they scored 3 times in the first inning.  What turned out to be the turning point was the 2nd inning when West Fargo put up 4 runs.  Teams would trade runs through the 4th and 5th inning.  VC would tie the game up in the top of the 6th with 2 runs, but West Fargo would come back with a run of their own and then hold VC in the tope of the 7th for the win, 7-6.

Nate Rodriguez got the start on the mound for VC.  He went 4 innings giving up 5 runs(all earned) on 5 hits while walking 5 and striking out 3.  Rylee Bjork came in relief and threw 2 innings giving up 2 runs(1 earnded) on 2 hits while walking 2.  Bjork was tagged with the loss.

At the plate Post 60 collect 9 hits in the game.  Bjork and Rodriguez each picked up 2 hits to lead the way.

Coaches Comment:
“Things started out great but Nate lost his control some there in the 2nd and that came back to hurt us.”
“We missed out on a couple chances on offense to put up some more runs. I liked how we kept battling back, we just came up short in this game.”

Post 60 record now sits at 10-13 with 5-5 region record.
Next action for Valley City will be July 6 when they travel to Devils Lake.
