CITY,ND (NEWSDAKOTA.COM)-Tuesday night at Charlie Brown Field in Valley City saw 2 differently played baseball games yet both were played by the same team. Post 60 welcomed to town the Fargo Expos and wasn’t the greatest of hosts, taking both games on the night. VC would win the first game 5-1 and second game 14-9, both being conference games.
Game 1 VC won 5-1, region game
A night after fellow pitcher Nate Rodriguez pitched a 3 hit, 13 strike out win, Jesse Johnson had to one up him. Johnson was dominate on the mound throwing a no hitter. Johnson threw all 7 innings giving up the 1 unearned run with 14 strike outs with 1 walk.
Valley City would score in 5 of their 6 times at the plate, but in each time they would only put up 1 run. Fargo scored their lone run in the 6th inning. Post 60 would come up with 6 hits in the contest.
Coaches Comments:
“Jesse was dominate from the start tonight. He was hitting spots and when he starting feeling good we challenged him to work on sharping up his secondary pitches” “It was fun to sit back and watch him work”
“Offensively we would have liked to put more runs up for our pitcher but we were struggling. We did however execute many of the little things, like moving runners over and taking the extra bases when we could.”
Game 2 VC won 14-9, region game
In just the first inning of this game there was just as much scoring as the first game, and that would set the tone for the rest of the game. Each team would grab the lead a couple times in the first couple innings. Post 60 would eventually stay in front after the bottom of the 5th when they pushed 3 runs across to take a 10-7 lead which would end up 14-9. Once again VC would score in 5 of 6 trips to the plate, only difference this game is they would score more then 1 run each of those 5 innings.
A trio of pitchers worked for Post 60 on the evening. Dawson Dietrich got the start and went 2 innings. Dalton Ondracek went 3.1 innings and would pick up the win. Sam Jenson would enter the game in the 6th and pick up the 5 out save for Post 60.
Drew Oberlander went 2 for 2 at the plate, driving in 2 runs while picking up a walk as well. Jenson and Nate Rodriguez would also pick up 2 hits each in the game.
Coaches Comment:
“A different game from the first, that is for sure. Out pitchers struggled throwing strikes this second game, but it was good that our offense stepped up to pick them up.”
“It was 2 big wins for us tonight. We have a little break now in region games and was nice getting back to .500 in region before this break.”
With the 2 wins VC record sits and 6-11 with 4-4 region record.
Next action will be this weekend as VC hosts 4 other teams for the Leevers Classic. Post 60 will play 3:30 and 5:30 both Saturday and Sunday. You can hear all of Post 60 games on KOVC AM1490 and NewsDakota.com
