CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson says it was definitely a surprise.

In the midst of a large scale identity theft investigation, this may be connected to the case uncovered in Valley City.

Chief Thompson says his department has started receiving forensic information from state investigators which was contained on computer hard drives and discs that should help provide details of who victims are and what personal information may have been compromised.

Although he says that could take months, possibly a year to complete. The computers, along with hundreds of credit and gift cards were seized from a Valley City man’s apartment and office in March. 33-year old Ram Lau was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of personal information.

At the time, he was an assistant professor at valley city state university. He remains in jail on a million dollars bond.

KOVC-AM News Director Steve Urness broke the story in March. You can read the original story by clicking the link below.
