(NewsDakota.com)-Valley City Post 60 ventured out on the road for the first time this summer and came back home with a spilt of the 2 games played in Casselton.   VC lost the first game(Region game) by score of 12-3 but came back to pick up the second game(Non Region) 4-3.

Game  1 VC lost 12-3

A back and forth game through 4 and half innings had VC in the lead 3-2, but then things turned and Casselton would put up 10 unanswered runs in the next 2 innings to take a 12-3 lead that would end up being the final score.

Dalton Ondracek started on the mound for VC.  Ondracek would go 4.1 inning giving up 4 runs( 3 earned) on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1, in picking up the loss.  Dawson Dietrich would come in and finish the game on the mound.

Offensively VC would only come up with 4 hits, while Casselton put up 11. 5 errors from VC didn’t help out either.

Coaches Comments:
“Dalton pitched pretty good tonight, good enough for us to stay in the game while he was in there. He started to run out of some steam so we had to make that switch then.”
“We are starting to have some better at bats, we just hit to many right at them tonight and they made the plays.”

Game 2 VC won 4-3, Non region game

A 3 run 4th inning would put VC up 1, a lead they would hold till the final out and a Post 60 victory by score 4-3.

Tanner Thomsen threw all 5 innings picking up the win for VC.  Thomsen gave up 3 runs (all earned) on 3 hits while walking 5 and sticking out 2.

Again VC would only collect 4 hits, but that was enough to out Casselton who only had 3 hits

Coaches Comments:
“Tanner threw great tonight, maybe a few to many walks but was able to work around them.  It was big for us to get a performance like that from him.”

With the spilt VC record now sits at 2-5 with a 1-2 region record.

Next action for VC will be Friday as they travel to Jamestown for 2 games starting at 5:30pm.
