(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School basketball teams played in LaMoure on Saturday night, and both teams came on the short end of the stick.
Girls: LaMoure 43 Oakes 40
The girls had control of this game for more than three quarters, but in the end it was a lack of awareness that doomed the Tornadoes from winning the contest. With roughly 15 seconds remaining in regulation, and Oakes down by one, LaMoure moved the ball into the front court, and the Tornadoes did not intentionally foul a Loboe until 2.5 seconds left. LaMoure made two free throws, and ended the game with the win.
“We just have to move on from this one.” said Oakes head coach Caitlyn Wojahn. “We have a lot of games still to go, and can definably still improve.”
Oakes 6-7) was lead by Nicole Warren’s 15 points, while Sydney Breitbach had 10.
Boys: LaMoure 79 Oakes 42
The boys of LaMoure showed why they are one of the best teams in Class B Basketball in the state with their dominating performance. Oakes’ final total of points was the same amount that LaMoure had at the end of the first half.
“(LaMoure) is one of the best in the state for a reason.” said Oakes head coach Brandon Bata. “They shot lights out, and they played great defense, but I though our kids played with a lot of heart. I thought tonight we took a step in the right direction, and you ask anyone in the stands or watching the game tonight and they will tell you we played hard, and we did that tonight. Despite a bad second quarter, we were able to keep up with them for the most part.”
Oakes ( 1-12) was lead in scoring by Tanner Zetocha who dropped in 14 points, Bryce Meehl added another 12.
Next up, both teams play Tuesday night. The girls will host Barnes County North, and the boys will go to Wyndmere-Lidgerwood. Coverage of the boys game can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com starting at 7:15 Tuesday night.
