N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinal finished the regular season with a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Skyhawks of Shiloh Christian High School. Tied 4-4 going to the bottom of the 7th inning, Cardinal leadoff batter Connor Wendel used his speed to leg out an infield single, stole second base, and was sitting on third base with two outs when Alex Stusynski singled to right field for the game winning hit. Stusynski finished the day 2-3, walking once, and scored one run before his 7th inning game winning hit. Wendel also went 2-3, scored twice, had a sacrifice bunt, and stole two bases. Brett Lyman pitched all 7 innings for the Cards to pickup the victory. Lyman was pretty efficient, throwinf 93 total pitches, allowing 4 runs (3 earned), scattering 7 hits, striking out 2, and walking 2 batters. The Cardinals led 3-0 after 3 innings. Jayden Shipman had a RBI single that scored Kyle Leapaldt in the 2nd ining and scored 2 more runs in the 3rd inning. Leapaldt singled in Stusynski for the second run of the inning, Wendel scored when Stusynski reached on a throwing error.
Shiloh would get 2 runs back in the top of the 4th inning on a 2 run single from Eric Fettig, scoring Dawson Fagerland and Jaden Johnson who both singled earlier in the inning. The Cards added a run in the bottom of the 4th when Payton Smith doubled down the left field line to start the inning and later scored from 3rd base 0n a Zac Martin wild pitch. The Skyhawks would tie the game in the 6th inning, scoring 2 times. Braden Rath doubled to deep left field to start the inning and scored on a Jared Baumiller groundout. Fettig would also score after reaching on an error and moving overto 3rd base on a past ball, scored on a Martin sacrifice flyout to right field to tie the game up at 4-4 heading to the bottom of the 7th where the Cardinals finished things on Stusynski’s RBI single. Martin started on the mound and pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned), striking out 4 Cardinal batters, and allowed 3 walks. Canaan Fagerland pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing the game winning run and took the loss. Dawson Fagerland and Fettig both had 2 hits foe the Skyhawks. Carrington improves to 17-1 on the season, avenging their only loss early in the season to Shiloh. The Skyhawks dropped to 20-7 overall. Carrington will take the number 1 seed into next weeks Region 3 tourney and will play at 5:00 on Monday (23rd), versus the winner of M-P-B or Lakota-Edmore.
