N.D. (AP) – North Dakota is getting more federal money
for flood recovery efforts. About $80 million is coming from the
Community Development Block Grant program. About $68 million of
that will go to Minot, where the Souris River swamped more than
4,000 homes and businesses. Ward County is getting about $9
million.
ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) – Tribal officials in South Dakota say
they’re glad President Barack Obama temporarily halted the planned
Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. The
Rosebud Sioux Tribe president says he worries the proposed $7
billion pipeline would damage cultural sites and water resources.
He calls Obama’s decision “a tremendous victory for tribal
nations.”
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A new report says motorists in the Dakotas
pay some the lowest insurance rates in the country. The report by
the National Association of Insurance Commissioners says Iowa is
the least-expensive state, followed by North Dakota and South
Dakota. North Dakota’s average premium is $650 a year.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – University of North Dakota hockey
forward Rocco Grimaldi has a season-ending knee surgery. The
freshman from California appeared in just four of UND’s 23 games
this season, scoring one goal and adding an assist. He’s a draft
pick of the NHL’s Florida Panthers.
