N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Dickey County has announced a “No Burn Day” today.

Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell reports that due to a red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service, no burning will be allowed today. Red flag warnings are issued when there are estimated to be high winds and low humidity. Russell points out that if you burned yesterday, double check that the fire is completely out today to avoid a surprise spark.

Planting operations are going on all over the county and state, so Russell urges everyone to be mindful of large equipment and trucks coming out and blowing dirt across the road or causing a spark to ignite.

Dickey, Logan, McIntosh and LaMoure counties have all joined in signing a fire emergency and burn ban. When  the Fire Danger Rating is Very High, Extreme and/or a Red Flag Warning is issued. The US Drought Monitor has portions of those four counties in the “Moderate Drought Intensity” so there will be elevated Fire Danger.
