N.D. (NDOA) Long-time Umpire and Carrington resident, Eric Hewitt, will receive a State Award on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 just prior to the 5:00 PM Varsity Baseball game at Legion Field/Roosevelt Park in Devils Lake. The North Dakota Officials Association (NDOA) will be recognizing and honoring Eric Hewitt as the 2015-16 North Dakota Active Official of the Year for Baseball.
Hewitt began umpiring baseball games as a teenager doing Pee-Wee games, then worked his way up to Babe Ruth and American Legion games. He began umpiring high school baseball in 1993. He has been a tournament crew member at the State Class ‘B’ High School Baseball Tournament, two State Class ‘B’ Babe Ruth tournaments, several Legion levels including Districts and Regionals and several years ago added the collegiate level as well.
Hewitt resides in Carrington, with his wife Kristen and two children. Their son Braxton, plays High School Baseball for Carrington.
