(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls track and field team took the top spot and the boys finished in sixth place in the first home meet of the 2016 season Friday.
The girls finished with a team total of 118 points, ahead of Barnes County North with 103 points. Oakes had first place performances from Alyx Schmitz in the Javelin (96 feet 2 inches), Bella Hansen in the Shot Put (33 feet) and the 4 x 800 Meter Relay (12 minutes 2.84 seconds).
The Oakes boys, who had a team total of 42 points, had Layne Schmit place first in the 3200 Meter Run (11 minutes 37.04 seconds) and Logan Sell in the Pole Vault (6 feet 6 inches). Central Cass won the boys meet with 154 points.
