ND. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington High School baseball team picked up a big early season victory over Region 3 rival Midkota/Dakota Prairie 3-1 Tuesday afternoon. A windy, cloudy, & cool afternoon didn’t affect the Cardinal’s Braxton Hewitt as the junior pitcher allowed just 1 run on 1 hit, striking out 6 Mustang batters to lead the Cardinals to the victory. Hewitt would also pick up a pair of hits including an RBI triple in the first inning to open up the scoring. Hewitt pitched 6 solid innings picking up the victory & sophomore Jayden Shipman picked up the save pitching a scoreless seventh inning. The Cards only collected 6 hits in the game, Hewitt had 2, Lucas Geiszler added 2, & Payton Smith added an RBI single in the second inning to increase the early lead to 2-0. Kyle Leapaldt added the other hit for Carrington. The Mustangs only run & hit of the game came in the 5th inning. Jayden Grover recorded the hit (an infield popup), that should have played by the Cardinals, but fell to the ground & scored Hunter Sand from third base with 2 outs. Grover was also the starting pitcher for the Mustangs & took the loss, pitching all 7 innings recording 6 strikeouts, 6 walks,  and 3 runs (2 earned). Carrington stole 7 bases in the game, Hewitt had 2, & 5 other starters all had 1. Carrington improves to 4-1 overall (2-0 in region 3), & the Mustangs drop to 1-2 overall (0-1 region 3).
