(NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota’s Farm Service Agency offices will all remain open following an announcement of USDA budget cuts last week.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is targeting 259 domestic offices nationwide for closure, including 131 Farm Service Agency offices.

No FSA offices in North Dakota are targeted for closure, said Dan James, FSA Communications Coordinator in North Dakota. The FSA has offices in both Jamestown and Valley City.

“We got by pretty lucky on this one,” James said. “As for FSA, we’re not closing any local offices in North Dakota. We didn’t meet the criteria for that.”

James said the criteria for the closings was offices that had less than two full-time employees and offices that were located within 20 miles of another service center. He said there has been some reorganizing with the FSA’s Farm Loan staff in North Dakota.

According to the USDA web site, there are five FSA offices targeted for closure in Minnesota, four in South Dakota, and one in Montana.

James said two USDA offices are targeted for closure in North Dakota: a Food and Nutrition Service Office and a Natural Resource Conservation Service Office, both in Bismarck.
