N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Both the Jamestown Fire Department and Jamestown Rural Fire Department were called to a grass fire near the Highway 281 bypass Tuesday evening west of Jamestown.

According to Rural Firefighter Travis Lemieux, the Jamestown City Fire Department had to be called to give mutual aid to the rural firefighters. The fire started near the railroad tracks, but spread rapidly north and northwest.

Lemieux reported that BNSF halted train traffic while crews battled the fire, which burned roughly 50 acres of land. According to the report, the fire was caused accidentally by a passing train.

No injuries were reported and no property damage occurred. Stutsman County Sheriff’s Deputies monitored the fire scene through the night and into Wednesday.
