S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference announced its first installment of the Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week honors Tuesday. Valley City State (N.D.) swept the weekly honors with Andrew Hanretty naming to Field Athlete-of-the-Week and Malik Jackson to Track Athlete-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Andrew Hanretty – Valley City State (N.D.) – Freshman – St. John, N.D. – Hanretty opened the outdoor season with two first-place finishes for Valley City State (N.D.) at NCAA Division II meet Yellow Jacket Spring Open, hosted by Black Hills State (S.D.). His leap of 7.03 meters in long jump (just .05 meters away from qualifying for NAIA nationals) is the second farthest jump in VCSU’s school history, trailing only the school record that was set in 1935. Hanretty also added a first-place in the triple jump with a measurement of 13.02 meters.
North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Malik Jackson – Valley City State (N.D.) – Senior – Las Vegas, Nev. – Jackson of Valley City State (N.D.) received two first-place finishes against NCAA Division II athletes at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open, hosted by Black Hills State (S.D.). Individually, he won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.20 seconds, topping a field of eight runners. Jackson also ran a leg on VCSU’s 4 x 400-meter relay team, which won the event by more than 3.5 seconds against NCAA Division II teams.
