ND (AP) – Democratic governor candidate Marvin Nelson has chosen New Rockford Sen. Joan Heckaman as his running mate.

Nelson introduced Heckaman as his choice for lieutenant governor on Wednesday in Grand Forks.

Nelson is a state representative from Rolla. He announced last week he’s seeking the Democratic nomination for governor. The 69-year-old Heckaman is a retired teacher and has served in the North Dakota Senate since 2007.

Three Republicans are running for the governor’s seat: Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, Bismarck state Rep. Rick Becker and Fargo businessman Doug Burgum. None of them have named a running mate.
