CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A tip led police to arrest a Valley City State University faculty member now facing several counts of unauthorized use of personal identity and possession of stolen property related to credit card theft.

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson says investigators found a combination of nearly 200 credit cards and debit cards as police executed a search warrant at the home of Ram Lau. Several computers were seized in the police search on March 22nd.

Ram Lau is employed as an assistant professor in the Social Sciences Department at VCSU.

Valley City State University president Tisa Mason says Lau has been placed on administrative leave. She says he’s denied access to the campus and computer services and networks.

Mason recommends everyone monitor your financial statements regularly for any unfamiliar activity and report any irregularities to police immediately.

Thompson says the investigation will take months before it’s completed and more charges against Lau are pending in this case.

More details about the arrest are in the news release listed below.
