CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) South Dakota school districts can arm teachers and staff with guns under a state law passed three years ago.

Valley City Representative Dwight Kiefert asked if South Dakota is allowing their schools to protect their students, why aren’t we.

Kiefert co-sponsored a bill that passed overwhelmingly in the North Dakota House but failed in the North Dakota Senate. He believes a similar bill should be presented to legislators during the upcoming 2017 North Dakota legislative session.

The number of South Dakota school district arming teachers has not been released.

Opponents of the South Dakota school gun law say arming teachers could lead to accidental shootings.
