LOUIS, MO (NewsDakota.com) – Several area corn growers were honored as state winners in the 2015 National Corn Yield Contest sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association.
According to the NCGA, Cody Frauenberg of LaMoure, ND placed first in the state in the No-Till/Strip-Till Irrigated Class with a yield of 280.3 bushels per acre and he was one of 407 state winners nationwide. James Frauenberg placed second in the contest with a yield of 278.6 bushels per acre.
In the Irrigated Class, Donna Frauenberg placed first with 279.5 bushels per acre. Bobby Frauenberg placed second with a yield of 278.7 bushels per acre. In the A Non-Irrigated Class, Amy Frauenberg placed third with a yield of 263 bushels per acre.
Oakes area corn growers also brought home some hardware. Scott German placed second in the A Non-Irrigated Class with a yield of 264.7 bushels per acre. John Quandt placed third in the state in the Irrigated Class with a yield of 250.7 bushels per acre.
“This harvest, the world witnessed the incredible bounty U.S. corn farmers can provide to meet the growing need for food, fuel and fiber both in our nation and around the world,” said NCGA President Chip Bowling, a corn grower from Newberg, MD.
“Our contest participants demonstrated that America’s farmers continue to strive for excellence while adopting state-of-the-art tools which help them meet those goals,” Bowling continued. “The top yield in this year’s contest – a tremendous 532.0271 bushels per acre achieved by David Hula of Charles City, VA, – is a testament to these efforts.”
All winners were recognized during the 2016 Commodity Classic on March 4th.
