N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met for their regular monthly session on Monday, March 7th at City Hall.

During the meeting, several consent agenda items were approved including the approval of street closures and alcoholic beverage permits for the upcoming Running O’ The Green event. Two items were removed from the consent agenda.

Item F was a resolution to approve a request from Casey Stoudt for the city to vacate a potion of an easement on land that he had purchased. Interstate Engineering reported that the water line on the west edge of the land needed verification. The council decided to table any action until more information was available.

Item N was a resolution to send payment to HDR Engineering, Inc. for their current study on recycling for the community. City Beautification President Joan Morris has been a big advocate for looking further into the study and numbers presented. Morris stated that there still hadn’t been any answers presented to explain certain numbers that had been provided by the engineering firm.

The council made the motion to table the payments pending more information being provided by HDR Engineering, Inc. There will be an open meeting on Thursday at 3 PM and project manager Brent Erickson will be available to answer questions.

A first reading was brought forth concerning an ordinance to amend the city code and allow the definition of group daycare or preschool facility. Mayor Katie Andersen stated that Fire Chief Jim Reuther made the suggestion to increase the amount of children a childcare facility could house from 12 to 17.

Chief Reuther stated that the demand for childcare in the community prompted the suggestion and would not change their inspection process.

There was no action taken as it was just a first reading of the proposed ordinance change.

Another first reading was held regarding an ordinance to amending several sections of the traffic impacts study requirements. Mayor Andersen stated that she had some concerns that she would present for the second reading.

The last large item that the council approved was to enter into an enterprise agreement with the Stutsman County Water Resource Board for the Storm Water Master Plan Project. Mayor Andersen stated that the southwest section of Jamestown would benefit most from the agreement. The motion passed with Councilman Dan Buchanan voting in opposition.
