WA (NewsDakota.com) – A native Oakes man traveled to Seattle, Washington this past weekend to participate in the 25th annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.

The event tasks firefighters to climb 788 feet up stairs, fully clothed in all their firefighting gear. The timed event features the Columbia Center with 69 floors and 1,356 total steps to reach the top. The event is held annually to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In 2015, the event featured 1,900 firefighters from over 330 departments and brought in a record $2.2 million.

27 year-old Mitchel Murphy from Minot, ND participated in the 2016 event, completing the climb with a time of 20:53, placing 723 out of a total of 1,793 participants.
