N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The month of March is a significant time with spring and the Irish Holiday celebrations. It’s also a time when more drinking and driving occurs.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced that fifty-two law enforcement agencies across the state will add extra patrols during the month in order to crack down on drinking and driving.

Sheriff’s Departments in Dickey, Eddy, Foster, LaMoure, Logan and Stutsman County will add extra officers. Police Departments in Carrington, Jamestown, Oakes and Valley City will also add extra patrols. The crackdown will be most active on and around St. Patrick’s Day in the state.

“The lives of others are more important than a few beers,” said Foster County Sheriff Ian Mattice. “If you plan ahead, and take turns being a designated driver for your friends, you will be doing the right thing.”

Jamestown Policeman Dale Ackland stated that officers from all departments would be putting in overtime hours in order to help prevent drinking and driving all across the state.

Funding for the high-intensity impaired driving enforcement is provided by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
