(NewsDakota.com) – Longtime North Dakota senator Dave Nething of Jamestown is retiring after his term expires in December.
Nething made the announcement during a press conference at his home Thursday afternoon. He said it is with mixed emotions that he announced his intention to not seek re-election.
“The time has come for me and I leave with no regrets,” he said in a prepared statement. “I wish my successor the very best.”
Nething, a republican, has served as a North Dakota senator since 1966, and served as Majority Leader from 1974 to 1986.
He graduated from Pingree High School, Jamestown College, and UND Law School.
