(NewsDakota.com) Another cost increase is coming soon to a post office near you. For the first time in two and a half years, the cost of a first class stamp is going up by a penny starting January 22 from 44 to 45 cents.
In addition, Oakes Postmaster Bryan Wolla has announced the Post Office will be leaving the price for any letter that weighs more than one ounce at 20 cents, while postcards will see a three cent increase to 32 cents. One ounce letters to Canada and Mexico will increase by five cents to 85 cents, and letters to other international destinations by seven cents to $1.05.
Prices are also changing for Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services and Extra Services. Shipping services will go up 4.6 percent, Priority Mail 3.1 percent on average, and Express Mail on average will increase by 3.4 percent. Three month pricing options will also be made available for those looking to rent a Post Office Box.
“The overall price increase is small and is needed to help address our current financial crisis.” said Wolla.
