N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams finished up their regular season on Saturday with a trip to Mayville. The women finished off a perfect NSAA record coming from 19-points back to win 81-79. Sam Johnson missed a game-winner at the buzzer that would have won it for the Jimmie men, but they fell 65-63.

Mayville State’s defense in the first half handcuffed the Jimmies and helped the Comets race out to a 43-25 lead at the break. But in the third quarter, Jamestown turned it on. The Jimmies scored 35 points and tied the game at 60 after three quarters. Jessica Buck had 16 of her 33 in the third.
Kyra Dewald hit a triple to put Jamestown up 78-74 with 1:15 to go and give Jamestown a chance to close out the game at the free throw line. However, they were just 3-9 from the line in the final minute and let the Comets hang around. Liza Hoglo missed a layup at the buzzer for the tie.

Jamestown lost their second consecutive close game when Johnson’s three skipped away off the front rim. Jamestown scored just 11 points in the first 15 minutes of the game, but were able to rally from double-digits to take a second half lead.
Darnell Landon hit a pair of big threes and had a rim-rattling dunk to keep the Comets in the game. Jamestown used Brequan Tucker as a decoy on the final play and got Johnson a clean look to try to win the game.
Tucker finished with 10.
Both Jamestown teams will have home playoff games this week. The women enter the tournament as the top-seed and will host Waldorf at 7pm on Wednesday.
The men are the No. 4-seed and are hosting Dickinson St. on Thursday at 3pm. All Jimmie playoff games can be heard on ESPN Jamestown.
