N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay boys are on a roll and not even the defending state champs could slow them down. Jamestown picked up its sixth straight win beating Century 66-58 behind Nate Willer and Danny Fischer.
Willer got the game started with the first basket and he and Century’s Tom Fraase exchanged baskets on the first couple trips down the floor. Willer was 6-6 from the field in the first half and ended with 19 on 9-10 shooting.
Jamestown built their lead to 16 midway through the half, but Fraase and Andre Maund were not going to go away. The Patriots pulled back within three lead by their seniors. The only problem with finishing off the Blue Jays when time isn’t on your side is the free throw shooting of Fischer.
Fischer made 12 of 13 from the line most of the those coming in the final minutes to put away the Patriots. He finished with 18, right at his season average.
Jamestown out rebounded the Patriots 39-30, it was the Patriots second chance opportunities late game that kept them alive.
The Blue Jays improve to 7-2 on the season and will have a week off before Bismarck St. Mary’s comes to Jerry Meyer Areana on Tuesday.
On the girls side, the Jays fell 72-54 behind another strong effort from Kayla Thoele. She finished with 14.
Century is the No. 2 team in the state in Class A.
Jamestown trailed for double-digits for most the of first half, but came out of the gate in the second half with a renewed fire. They were able to get within six at 43-37, but got stuck on 37 for a long stretch and the Patriots put the game out of reach.
Kyra Dewald finished with 13 and Julie Fuchs with 12.
The loss snaps the three-game winning streak and drops the Jays to 3-6. The girls will also have the weekend off before a visit from St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
